How to negotiate the price of a car at a dealership
By Kijiji AutosWhen buying a vehicle from a dealership, you want to make sure that you’re getting the best value. Here’s how to make sure you have all the information you need when negotiating with a dealer.
Why does doing your homework help you get a better price?
Just as Ryan Thompson from Ernie Dean Chevrolet Buick GMC explains in this video, dealerships use technology to ensure they’re offering a competitive price for their vehicles. But, there can still be room for negotiation if you’ve done your homework. And it starts with the price.
How to check if the car’s price is right?
First thing is to use the Instant Price Analysis feature on Kijiji Autos. It’s powered by CarFax, so it will assess the cost of the vehicle as it compares to similar vehicles. If something doesn’t seem right you can ask for price adjustments from the dealer.
Second thing is to ask questions. Two seemingly similar cars, same model from the same year, may have different stories so it is possible pricing differs. Dealers are always happy to explain why they priced the car the way they did.
Where can you find more information about a model you like?
On Kijiji Autos, we have an extensive list of Model Overview Pages that allow you to get all the information you need to know about the models, years, and trims. This is a great place to start your car search and will quickly have you up-to-speed on key information about the vehicles you are looking for.
What happens if you offer a car dealer cash instead of financing?
There is a common misconception that offering a dealer cash upfront will reduce the price of a vehicle. As Ryan Thompson states, this is unlikely.
